Frequency comes through with another certified dope event at Club Mighty this weekend.

While hip-hop heads know Sean Price's legacy as a founding member of Duck Down/Boot Camp/Heltah Skeltah in the early-90s (extra points for anyone who remembers this), and his reinvention and strongarming of the rap game in the late 2000s, some names on the bill might not be as familiar. But if previous concerts by Black Milk and the Beat Junkies haven't made it apparent, Frequency is a brand that you can trust.

Bay heads <s>should</s> better be up on Moe Green. The young homey from Vallejo has been going for the kill since the release of his Rocky Maivia: Non Title Match, quickly establishing himself as one of the Bay's sharpest lyricists and live entertainers.

Danny Brown first stepped on most folks' radar on Dilla's posthumous Jay Stay Paid on "Dilla Bot vs. The Hybrid," leaving a mark with his ridiculous lyrics and flow. He's been compared to ODB for his absurd lyrics, hilarious punchlines ("I'm a pirate with the pyrex / might fuck a bitch raw, Magic ain't die yet") and sometimes odd delivery. Obviously, we fucks with the dude. This may or may not be his Bay Area debut.

Last but not least is Quelle Life of Crown Nation (not to be confused with the other Qwel). He and partner Denmark Vessey dropped the highly slept-on Slut Bag Edition late last year (which we were supposed to review; our sincerest apologies, Denmark). Quelle's since dropped his solo project, Blue Mondays. In Detroit tradition, Quelle produces and spits raw and witty gems with a Golden Era gleam. He's def one to look out for.

They hit Club Mighty in SF on Nov. 20 with Oakland Faders' Joe Quixx and host Fran Boogie

San Francisco is rich with history, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the legends of Alcatraz. This week, history was made yet again. Just as when folks reflect back on the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, people years from now will ask: Where the fuck were you when the Giants fucked shit up in the 2010 World Series? And: How did you celebrate?

I know we've been celebrating all week, but the party don't stop. Come show your pride Friday night at 111 Minna Gallery for Black and Orange with Oh Dang! and Hometown Heroes. Featuring DJs Delrokz, Mes One, Illeffect, Romeo, LES and GeekToTheBeat and live art by J.Todd.O, Ichii Ohryin and more. We're also celebrating the birfdays of Oh Dang! writer Jessica Barcenilla, events assistant Jenny Lee and editor-in-chief Zoneil Maharaj. So come through in your orange-and-black gear and say what up to the Oh Dang! squad. Details in the flyer below.

It's free BEFORE 10:30 if you're on the guest list. Email ArjayDas@gmail.com for guest list consideration.

Black Milk has kept quiet the last year and a half. In 2008, not only did the Detroit emcee and producer drop his third album to much acclaim, he also produced the entirety of Slum Village member Elzhi's The Preface and dropped a collaborative album with fellow Detroit rapper Fat Ray. He's spent the time since meticulously crafting his fourth full-length, Album of the Year, which just dropped Sept. 14 on Fat Beats/Decon.

While naming your project Album of the Year may seem like a bold proclamation, those familiar with Black Milk's work know that it just might be true. He's helped shape the gritty Motor City Sound through bruising bangers that some say evoke Dilla's ghost, and traded verses with lyrical heavyweights like Royce Da 5'9" and Elzhi.

Black Milk will celebrate the release of Album of the Year with his first performance in San Francisco ever, accompanied with a live band, for VTech Phones' new monthly get-down, Frequency. This Detroit edition also features Elzhi and DJ House Shoes. It goes without saying...but this is gonna be a dope show. Ticket info, flyer, videos and downloads below.

I know we've had our ups and downs--I've slacked on more than a few occasions--but the fact we still remain is a testament to our dedication to what we do. And we've got a few tricks up our sleeve that we'll be sharing with you over the next few months. I guess what I'm saying is: we ain't going nowhere any time soon.

In Oh Dang! fashion, we're partying and bullshitting with our fam and friends in celebration at 111 Minna Gallery. We've got Mes 1 (of All Mighty Family), Tap 10 (Honor Roll), Justin Time (Mixerfriendly) and Super Sayan spinnin' with J.Todd.O, Ichii Ohrhyin, Kris Mestizo, Steve Belale and Jasmin Joy doing live art. See the flyer below for more details.

Here's to four more--nah, fuck that--40 more years! (Okay, maybe not that long.).

We all know that major labels don't have a clue, but it still blows my mind when they continually fuck up. Case in point: Gary, IN native Freddie Gibbs. Once signed to Interscope, Gangsta Gibbs is now dominating the indie rap scene and giving hipster rappers cause for alarm. He's bringing back raw, gritty realism to rap while showcasing lyrical excellence. And he's putting it all on display for SF heads next Wed., Aug. 25 at 330 Ritch for his STR8KILLA EP release party. Supporting him are SF's own DaVinci and Brooklyn-based Tanya Morgan.

You can't ask for a more solid line-up. And for $8 presale tickets, you'd have to be as dumb as Interscope for sleeping on this one. Cop your presale tickets here. Download Freddie Gibbs' Str8 Killa No Filla mixtape here. Power Struggle--led by Bay Area-based, Midwest-bred emcee Nomi and his latest cast of beat technicians (LA's Fatgums and SF's Mister Rey)--dropped their latest LP, Remittances, earlier this month. It's a powerful record that takes listeners on a journey, told from the perspective of a working-class immigrant disillusioned by the American dream. A nomad himself, Nomi's roots stretch to Minneapolis and Brooklyn, where he set up shop with former crews Oddjobs and Kill the Vultures. He toured the world and had a fleeting affair with the rap life before hanging it all up to serve a greater purpose.

"I was empty hustling in New York," he said in a 2008 interview with Hyphen magazine. "At the end of the day, being more active in my community and fighting for social justice is more fulfilling than getting your ego stroked." Now a moving force in San Francisco's Filipino American community, Nomi works as a community organizer and teacher at the Filipino Community Center.

It's truly an honor for Oh Dang! to celebrate the release of Remittances on June 4 at Pier 23 Cafe in SF. Featuring performances by Power Struggle (Nomi with Kiwi, Bwan, Pele, Mister Rey, and Saico), Denizen Kane, Dirty Boots, Otayo Dubb and the Counterparts with DJ Wonway on the tables. See below for full details and download tracks from Remittances.

Remittances is out now, available for purchase at www.beatrockmusic.com.
