Steve Belale has been a longtime member of Oh Dang!'s extended fam. His raw, colorful, graffiti-inspired wildstyle-on-canvas was hung in our first boutique back in 2006 (R.I.P. B2S1) and he painted live at many of our early parties. It's our pleasure to share with you Belale's new works, a collection titled The Great Demise, for one night only at 111 Minna Gallery this Saturday, July 31.

Belale will be painting live alongside the equally talented likes of J.Todd.O, Christopher De Leon, Ichii Ohrhyin, Dyno and Sophinie. On deck we've got Franky Fresh, IllEffect, Sayan and Trick Vic. The Farmers' Block is a family style block party supporting farmers, kitchen gurus, artists, musicians and DJs for an all inclusive network unique to San Francisco. Recurring bi-monthly, this gathering will host the best in creatives all within the big-ass family we share.

The first ever launch party and after party will commence on June 5 at 111 Minna Gallery (2 to 8pm) with an after party at Redsky Records (8pm until the party stops), both in beautiful San Francisco just blocks from each other.

June 4: Oh Dang! x Beatrock Music present Power Struggle's Remittances release party

Power Struggle--led by Bay Area-based, Midwest-bred emcee Nomi and his latest cast of beat technicians (LA's Fatgums and SF's Mister Rey)--dropped their latest LP, Remittances, earlier this month. It's a powerful record that takes listeners on a journey, told from the perspective of a working-class immigrant disillusioned by the American dream. A nomad himself, Nomi's roots stretch to Minneapolis and Brooklyn, where he set up shop with former crews Oddjobs and Kill the Vultures. He toured the world and had a fleeting affair with the rap life before hanging it all up to serve a greater purpose.

"I was empty hustling in New York," he said in a 2008 interview with Hyphen magazine. "At the end of the day, being more active in my community and fighting for social justice is more fulfilling than getting your ego stroked." Now a moving force in San Francisco's Filipino American community, Nomi works as a community organizer and teacher at the Filipino Community Center.

It's truly an honor for Oh Dang! to celebrate the release of Remittances on June 4 at Pier 23 Cafe in SF. Featuring performances by Power Struggle (Nomi with Kiwi, Bwan, Pele, Mister Rey, and Saico), Denizen Kane, Dirty Boots, Otayo Dubb and the Counterparts with DJ Wonway on the tables. A good friend of the Oh Dang! fam is hosting an art auction on May 7 at Artillery Apparel Gallery in SF to raise raise funds for participation in the AIDS Lifecycle bike ride from SF to LA. Let's help him hit that $3,000 mark so he can ride in memory of an uncle he lost to AIDS. All proceeds, of course, will go to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. The event will feature art from Oh Dang! family members J.Todd.O, Ethel Agonoy-Maharaj, Krys Simon and others. Oh, and there's food and drank. A $5-$10 donation is recommended, but do you really wanna be that dick who refuses to pay for a fundraiser? For a $30 donation, you'll receive a limited edition t-shirt designed by Cukui and RYFL. While it ain't quite festival season yet, Just One Entertainment is starting things off right in San Francisco with Left Fest on Thurs., Jan. 28 at the Mezzanine. An epic night of top-tier hip-hop, Left Fest will feature live performances by Oakland legends Souls of Mischief, who will celebrate the release of their recently latest album, Montezuma's Revenge; Crown Royale, with Athletic Mic League's Buff1 (Ann Arbor, MI) and Beat Junkie DJ Rhettmatic (LA; So Cal beat mangler Exile; SF emcee Alexander Spit; freshly-formed duo Kings of 8-Bit (Rush One and Mezmetic); freestyle veteran Supernatural MC; and DJ Whooligan with 40Love. (Sorry, there won't be any camping out in the rain, psychedelic drugs or regrets of making out with that dirty-ass hippie chick who doesn't shave her armpits at this festival, though I suppose you could get down like that if you wanted to).

"Pioneering bay area MC collective and founding members of Hieroglyphics crew will be celebrating the release of their new album "Montezuma's Revenge".

After ten years of steady work in the music industry Souls of Mischief come full circle with another groundbreaking album produced primarily by the legendary Prince Paul (Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School, etc.) along with Domino and other members of the group. The album is already considered a classic!

+Crown Royale+

Crown Royale, the group which pairs veteran Michigan emcee Buff1 with World Famous Beat Junkie DJ Rhettmatic made perfect sense from the start.

Rhettmatic offers his standing as a forefather in L.A.‘s burgeoning Hip-Hop scene; as part of DJ crew the Beat Junkies. Recently highlighted as a part of URB’s NEXT 100, Buff1 has stacked up more than a decade of recording, touring and honing show-halting stage skills with seven-man Hip-Hop arsenal Athletic Mic League.

Crown Royale not only makes classic music, but their live show is an experience rather than an event. The energy that has come to be expected from a Buff1 live performance is only further enhanced by the presence of a true turntablist such as Rhettmatic.

Known for his prowess on the MPC Exile will be gracing the stage for a special set that combines original MPC beats combined with interpretations of his original productions.

After successful projects with the likes of Aloe Blacc, Blu, Mobb Deep, Ghostface Killa and more Exile is sure to wow the crowd.

+Alexander Spit+

Formerly of "The Instant Messengers" Alexander Spit has gone solo and never looked back. With the recent release of "Open 24 Hours" Alexander Spit and The Hundreds have taken independent West Coast Hip-Hop by storm. Sell out performances from North to South prove that this up and coming emcee is one to watch.

+Kings Of 8 Bit+

This newly formed duo graced the stage at "Amplify" Summer Music showcase in SF dropping a new style of beats and rhymes that the bay has not yet heard and people were blown back. Rush One and Mezmetic combine several years of experience in the studio and on stage to bring the crowd a performance they would not forget. Kings of 8 Bit will be a group to watch in 2010.

+Supernatural MC+

Legendary freestyle MC Supernatural brings something that not many other host are able to provide, a show! Whether it is phenomenal wit on the mic or impersonations that will have you taking a second look. Supernatural ensures there is never any dull moment in the mix.

+The Whooligan & 40 Love+

Touring DJ, booking agent, party rocker you name it The Whooligan makes it happen. The Whooligan aka Julio Galvez has putting in work in SF and beyond for years and the effort shows.
