If the name Grillade (pronounced "gree-yahd") isn't familiar to you, its members are. Comprised of producer Keelay, acclaimed rhythm section The Park and Portland-based songstress Ragen Fykes, the members of this sonic supergroup have made a name for themselves both individually and for their collaborations with talented artists across multiple genres (and continents). Keelay, who dropped one of the most heralded hip-hop releases of 2009 with partner Zaire, Ridin' High, has worked with Phonte, Blu, Sole Vibe and other hip-hop notables; Ms. Fykes's sultry, hypnotic vocals has earned her respect as a solo artist; and The Park--with Derek Taylor on drums, Josh Lippi on bass, Ben Schwier on keys and Nate Mercereau on guitar--have held it down with their own weekly concert series, as well as contributing tracks for and backing up British soul singer Alice Russell.
Needless to say, the members of Grillade have their plates full, yet they still find time to come together and cook up a fresh, bold sound that captivates the soul.
We caught up with Grillade on the set of their "Dream of You" video shoot, directed by French Press Films, to find out more about the band and their music. Check the video interview below, along with photos from the video shoot and their live performance at The Independent on Sept. 25, all shot by Oh Dang! contributor Chris Bradley.
