Despite what you might think when you hear the name, Tanya Morgan is a rap group. And a damn good one at that. Gaining acclaim for the true school aesthetics displayed on their 2006 debut Moonlighting, and further propelled by 2008's The Bridge EP, the trio of emcees Donwill, Ilyas and emcee/producer Von Pea are ready to put forth their most polished body of work to date: Brooklynati (out May 12 on Interdependent Media).
"If you've heard anything we've put out before, [Brooklynati] is just a step up," Von Pea says.
The group, whose members are spread between Brooklyn and Cincinnati (hence the album title), journeyed out west to Oakland to shoot the video for their first single, "So Damn Down." [Download "So Damn Down" and more below.] We caught up with Tanya Morgan, director Roy Miles, Jr., the Interdependent Media team and their Bay fam at KTOP studios to give you sneak peak of the music video and to find out more about Brooklynati.
